LG G Pad 8.3 review: Hands-on

LG G Pad 8.3 review: Hands-on

LG G Pad 8.3

The LG G Pad 8.3 is the brand's new Android tablet, with a quad-core procesor and an 8.3-inch screen but can it take on the iPad Mini?
LG has never quite got going in the tablet arena, with the the LG Optimus Padfailing to make a significant mark, but could that all be about to change with the LG G Pad 8.3?

The new Android-toting tablet is set to go head to head with the likes of theGoogle Nexus 7 2, the iPad Mini and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.

LG G Pad 8.3: Size and build

Tipping the scales at 338g, the G Pad is nice and light, and measures just 8.3mm at its thickest point. The 8.3-inch form factor is the biggest possible size that the Korean company reckons you can use one-handed.

And while we'd agree that you can certainy hold the lightweight gadget one-handed, you can't really navigate around the screen one-handed as you would with a smartphone like the LG G2.

The plastic bezel around the screen is wider at the top and bottom of the screen, giving you something to hold onto when watching when watching video on the screen in landscape. You'll also find that the speakers on the back of the device are well placed for video playback so that you won't be covering them with your hands.

LG G Pad 8.3: Features

The G Pad runs Android 4.2.2 and packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz quad-core 2GB of RAM so there should be enough processing power on board to cope with multitasking and more demanding tasks like HD video.

LG G Pad 8.3: Screen

The G Pad's 8.3-inch screen is a great size - not so big that it makes the tablet unwieldly, but just big enough that you'll be able to comfortably watch videos. With a resolution of 1,920x1,200 pixels, the screen is pretty impressive and the video that viewed looked great, even on darker images.

LG G Pad 8.3: Verdict

While LG hasn't really made a mark in the tablet market before, the LG G Pad 8.3 could potentially be the gadget to change that. At first glance, this is one of the most impressive tablets we've seen in this size range and could prove to be a serious contender in the head to head battle with the iPad Mini and Google Nexus7 2. We'll know more as soon as we can get a full review sample in at T3 HQ.
