Nvidia unveils Tegra Note tablet

Nvidia unveils Tegra Note tablet

Nvidia has officially announced the Android-powered Tegra Note tablet, which the chip developer says carries the suggested retail price of £179.99
Nvidia has shown off the new Tegra Note, which the chip-maker claims is the world's fastest 7-inch tablet.
Originally demoed back in June as the Tegra Tab at Computex, the Tegra Note uses a Tegra 4 chipset with a 72-core GeForce GPU in a quad-core Cortex A15 CPU. The Tegra Not has 16 GB on board storage but users can expand storage up to 32 GB via the tablet's microSD card slot. The tablet also has 10 hours of battery life.
The Tegra Note has a 7-inch HD LCD screen with a 1280x800 IPS display, with a 5 MP on the back and a VGA webcam facing front. The tablet also comes packaged with Stylus with apps for both chisel and brush stroke note taking.
The Tegra Note will ship with TegraZone gaming and the latest version of Android. Nvidia says the device will receive Over-The-Air updates when needed.
Nvidia won't be releasing the Tegra Note to market itself, saying it will be released by its partners.
The Tegra Note enters a rather crowded market and whether it can compete with tablets such the iPad 4 and Surface Pro has yet to be revealed. Incidentally, both of those tablets have been shortlisted for Tablet of the Year for the 2013 T3 Gadget Awards presented by Ford SYNC. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Samsung has just this week unveiled the much rumoured follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. We’re about to see what has changed in the past year, but if you want more then check out our hands on: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 review.

If you were watching Samsung’s Unpacked event at IFA in Berlin, holding your Note 2 and wondering whether it will be worth an upgrade to the new model, we’re here to help. We’ve handily compared both devices, to see if the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a worthy investment.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Build

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features a new design over its predecessor boasting a soft-touch, faux leather back. With dimensions of 151.2x79.2x8.3mm the Note 3 is actually slimmer and thinner than the Galaxy Note 2 despite boasting a larger 5.7-inch display. Not only that, it's only 168 grams - 12 grams lighter than its predecessor.
In terms of the Note 2, it comes in at 9.4mm thick; it’s slimmer than the original Note (9.65mm) but not as slender as the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Processor

The Galaxy Note 3 has been given a serious hardware boost with the 3G model featuring the much-reported 1.9GHz octa-core processor whilst the 4G/LTE version will come sporting a 2.3GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor. There’s an impressive 3GB RAM and it will come with either 32 or 64GB of storage with microSD support up to 64GB as well.
The main additions to the Note 3 stem from its power, and the brand new Air Command function. Hovering over the screen with your S-Pen and pressing a button on the side of the Pen brings up a new menu, with a number of new features – something not available on the previous model.
It’ll also come running the latest version of Android, 4.3, something which has not yet made its way over to the Note 2
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was definitely no slouch, packing a 1.6GHz quad core processor plus 2GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Screen

The first thing many people will notice on the Note 3 is the display, bumped up to 5.7 inches the screen is a Full HD Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a pixel density of 386ppi.
The screen on the Note 2 was 5.5-inches and still HD Super AMOLED quality which means you could expect deep blacks and brilliantly vivid colours.
Samsung seems to be getting ever closer to that 6-inch size, with the Note 3 improving on its predecessors display. Who knows what size they will hit this time next year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Camera

In the Note 2’s camera department, there was a respectable 8-Megapixel rear-facing snapper with auto focus that could be adjusted on the screen and an LED Flash. Interestingly, the front-facing camera capable of HD recording was just 1.9-Megapixels down slightly from the 2-Megapixel one on the original Note.
The Note 3 packs a 13MP camera that, as rumoured, will be able to shoot Ultra-HD 4K video at 30fps, FHD at 60fps and even Slow Motion at 120fps.
There's a 2MP camera on the front as well for selfies and of course Samsung's Dual Shot, Dual Recording and Dual Video Call features. A definite improvement, specs wise anyway, over the previous model.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Operating System

Both devices are based on the Android platform, though it has been heavily customised thanks to the additions of TouchWiz - Samsung’s skin. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features a whole host of additions including a new magazine feature, improved support for the S-Pen and a redesigned S-Notes application. We’re not sure yet which features may make the jump to the older hardware, though we’ll be sure to update you once we known more.
We do know that Samsung’s Smartwatch – the Galaxy Gear will work with the Note 3 and Note 3 10.1 at launch, though an update should enable it to play nice with the Note 2

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the brand's most powerful mobile device ever and finally the first Note with a build quality that reflects the price. If you’re in the market for an extra-large device, with a speedy processor and a whole boat load of added features, the Note 3 could be just that. However you’ll have to stay tuned for a full review when we’ve had more time to play with it.

Samsung to launch revamped Galaxy Note 10.1, spacious fridge in India

Betting big on premium products to boost sales during the upcoming festival season in India, consumer electronics major Samsung is planning to launch over half a dozen products including a 10-inch tablet and a spacious refrigerator in the next three months.

Focusing on increasing consumer base in the home appliance segment, Samsung will launch its new 'side by side' refrigerator by the end of 2013 in India. The fridge would cut down power consumption by 40 percent with a 10 year warranty, a top company official said.

"Ultra high definition TV is the next big thing in India as demand for Large screen TV is growing there. In the home appliance segment, we see the big demand in the refrigerator segment and that is why we are focusing on better looking ones as it would be a long term investment for customers," Samsung senior VP (CE division) Atul Jain said.

The side-by-side refrigerator would help customers due to its innovative design as there would be a show case for instant access of frequently used items and an inner case for longer storage ingredients.

Elaborating on the UHD TV market, Jain said there is a lot of demand for large screen TVs in India which are 40 inch and above.

"We have come out with a new technology called Evolution Kit using which customers can update their TV sets at par with the new technology devised by Samsung from time to time," Jain said.

Apart from the Note 3 and Gear which the company would launch on September 25, Samsung will come up with Note 10.1 in the last week of October, just before Diwali.

"The Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) would have features including a 10-inch display, 1.9 GHZ Octa Core processor (for 3G / WiFi only version) and 3GB RAM.

Further, Samsung will launch its 55 inch and 65 inch UHD TV in India next month priced at about Rs 3.25 lakh and 4.40 lakh, respectively.

Besides, it would bring its UHD TV of 98 inch and 110 inch sizes in India by next year.

Currently Samsung dominates the UHD TV 4K resolution market, Jain said. Its competitors are Sony and LG.

Meanwhile, company sources said Samsung aims to be the first in launching a OLED Curve TV in India and plans to bring the 55 inch version next year.

Jain said the industry demand for large screen panel TVs in India during 2013 is estimated at 5.5 to 6 million, of which 60 percent would be for LED screen.

Besides the company would launch a laptop --- Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite. The laptop would have a display of 13.3 inch and a 4 GB memory along with a storage capacity of 128 GB. The battery life is up to 8 hours.

Sources said the product would be available in Indian markets during the last quarter of 2013.
Further the company would also launch its high end camera NX 300 this month.

It will be a 20.3 mega pixel camera with a 3.3 inch Amoled display with touch.
